GobakanYa, currently a division of Makona Hardware and Industrial (Pty) Ltd which in turn is part of the Man-Dirk (Pty) Ltd group of companies, came into being early in February 2003. The division was based on one initial bioremediation product BioMatrixPlus, developed by the current environmental division manager Chris Cooper. After an initial short period of product development and testing in the field, small scale production of the BioMatrixPlus product (now more familiarly known as GK BioPack Bioremediation Media) began in March 2004 with the first bag of product coming off the production line on the 17th March 2004.

Today GobakanYa (GK) holds a number of patents and manufactures over 25 environmental protection and rehabilitation products. From an initial single employee, the division now has 8 full time employees and 24 part time representatives based in the Man-Dirk (Pty) Ltd group of companies. The current product range includes amongst others a range of organic absorbents, bioremediation products, environmental cleaning solutions and pollution control equipment. As an added value benefit to our customers and distributors the division also offers the service provisions to match the product range including managing large and small scale bioremediation projects and contaminated site cleanup. Our largest bioremediation project to date involved the bioremediation of 10,000m3 of hydrocarbon contaminated solids for a mining conglomerate in Southern Africa.
